The biggest opera house of the world
"Fly, thought, on wings of gold; go settle upon the slopes and the hills, where, soft and mild, the sweet airs of our native land smell fragrant!" Have you ever heard these lines? They are from the opera Nabucco by Giuseppe Verdi and were sang by the Jews-Chorus in the act III.
Verdi’s operas are among the most famous and popular ones, Nabucco and Aida are classic. Not only opera lovers know about these operas, every music interested people have at least heard about them. To listen to the operas we highly recommend coming to the Arena in Verona in Italy: it’s simply incredible and breathtaking watching the opera in this ancient Roman building, which offers place for about
22.000 people.
The Arena in Verona was built in the year
30 AD by the Roman imperators. It had been used for gladiators-fights and only in the Renaissance they decided to perform music and theater in the Arena. That was an excellent idea. The acoustic is so good, that the singers don’t need a microphone, the whole technique is concentrated on spectacular light effects. Sitting in the Arena, on these ancient stone-seats, above you the stars in the black night and below you impressing concerts and operas:
theses give you the creeps!
On the website
www.arena.it you can find the opera-calendar. Other concerts taking place in the Arena you can see
here.
