The velodrome in Montichiari
In Montichiari, about 10 km from the south-east shore of Lake Garda, there is the Velodromo di Montichiari cycle track. The futuristic building was designed by the engineer Eliseo Papa and is reminiscent of the shape of a bicycle helmet from the outside. Inside, it offers enough space for races of track cycling, events, meetings and congresses.
All lovers of cycling who spend their holidays on the south-east shore of Lake Garda, don't have to worry about the weather or cold temperatures because in the nearby village of Montichiari there is a modern, large and covered cycle track - the Velodromo di Montichiari. The contemporary building offers the opportunity to train, participate in various races or events in every season where you can take advantage of all the benefits of the attractive structure.
The numbers surrounding the Velodrome in Montichiari are impressive: 1,400 seats accommodating 2,000 people, 15 million euros in construction costs, 9,200 m² and a total volume of 105.000 m³. 372 beams were used for the construction of the railway, the roof consists of more than 6,506 steel parts, which are held together by more than 1,506 nails. Overall, the Velodrome is a spectacular architectural achievement.
Training and competitions
The racetrack with 250 m length and 43% inclination is a technical and fast track, which was made of slabs of Siberian stone pine. The maximum speed which can be reached on the cycle track is 87 km/h. The Velodromo di Montichiari is the only covered cycle track in Italy, making it one of the most important venues for track cycling and high-level competitions.
The Velodrome has been in compliance with the regulations of the International Federation of Cycling since 2009 and has been the venue for the World Cycling Championships and the Disabled World Championships since that time.
The racetrack offers the following disciplines: Speed, Olympic Speed, Keirin, Time Trial (500m for Women), Points Race, Sprint, Team Sprint, One-Track, Team Pursuit, Two-Team and Omnium. In addition to the various sports events, the Velodrome can also organise exhibitions, concerts, gala dinners or conferences.
Right at the entrance to the cycling track, there is a large bar that can accommodate up to 100 people, both indoors and outdoors. The building also has various function rooms that can be booked for meetings, courses or gatherings, all with Wi-Fi and microphones. A video projector, a coffee break, a business lunch buffet and welcome drinks can also be booked on request.
