The Via Ferrata Colodri at Lake Garda

If your family is into climbing, but your children have had to stay in the hotel until now because the Via Ferratas were not family friendly enough, then this trail is right for you!

The Via Ferrata Colodri is especially suitable for children and beginners and offers a day full of climbing fun for the whole family. It should be noted however that children should be secured on an extra rope, since the path sometimes seems quite worn.

Directions

How to get there: Take the Brenner motorway towards Verona to Trento and take the Lago di Garda Nord exit. Follow the Sarca Valley to Arco.

Alternatively, you can also get to the via ferrata via Rovereto (Rovereto South / Lago di Garda exit). Drive via Mori towards Torbole. From Torbole at Nago turn right to Arco and immediately after the bridge turn right again. You can park in the designated parking lot in the bridge area or about 500 metres further on by the outdoor swimming pool.

Follow the path on the other side, opposite the swimming pool, which leads through a pine forest. Soon you will have reached the entrance. With a steady incline, short steep sections through large boulders take you to passages partly secured and partly unsecured. The climb is not too difficult. It has a classification of difficulty level B.

Once at the top you have a fantastic view over the sparkling Lake Garda and an impressive view over the villages of Arco, Riva and Torbole, which will not only astonish the little ones among the climbers.

The descent hides about 10 minutes further to the right, behind the summit cross. Follow the marked trail to S. Maria di Laghel from here you will return to Arco.

Of course, you must not miss the well-deserved ice cream at the end!

Tips:

  • The climb has a family-friendly classification. However, you should note that the two vertical passages over short walls in the last section require some strength and experience.
  • The best months for the via ferrata are from March to November. Especially during the holiday season, you should start your trek either early in the morning or in the evening, as there can be traffic jams in the wall.
  • Note that some parts of the route are open to the sun and, especially in the summer months, it can burn relentlessly.
  • Via ferrata set and helmet, especially for children!
