Horse riding on Lake Garda – Rides, trekking tours & tips
A mild climate, shaded woodland tracks and mountain trails with views of the lake: the area around Lake Garda is ideal for a riding holiday. Whether you go for an hour’s ride, spend a whole day in the saddle or set off for several days depends on your experience. On this page, you’ll find the right options and learn what to look out for.
Riding lessons and guided tours
At the region’s equestrian centres, you can improve your skills or join a guided trekking tour. Rides are available by the hour or by the day. A day trip lasts around seven to eight hours. On multi-day tours, you’ll usually stay in guesthouses, and sometimes in mountain huts with catering facilities.
Tips for beginners and experienced riders
If you have little experience, take a few riding lessons before your first ride. This will help you feel more confident on longer routes, and the horse will notice the difference too.
Equipment for hourly and day rides
- Sun protection
- Sturdy footwear
- A rain jacket in case of unsettled weather
Equipment for multi-day tours
- Long trousers and a helmet
- Rainwear and a warm jumper
- A sleeping bag and sleeping mat if you’re staying in huts
Pack as little and as lightly as possible, as your luggage will be carried by the horse.
Accommodation for your riding holiday
Whether it’s a guesthouse for the tour or a hotel as a base: you’ll find accommodation near the riding stables, for example in Brenzone, Malcesine, Tremosine or Riva del Garda.
